Committees

Annual Banquet

Each year, we come together to celebrate and honor individuals for their ongoing contributions to our community.  This committee organizes this yearly event each fall and insures all our award winners as well as all attendees have an evening to remember. Meeting scheduled as needed.
 

Awards

The members of this committee are charged with mission of choosing award winners in categories including:  The Athena Award, Citizen of the Year, Business Person of the Year, and Humanitarian of the Year.  And on occasion we award individuals or businesses with our Chairman Award or our Frank Schoelch Award, in honor of a former Executive Director of the Chamber.  Meeting scheduled as needed.

Business Development

In support of business, the Business Development Committee coordinates workshops and seminars relevant to the area business owners.  The focus is on smaller corporations, partnerships and sole proprietors, with many offerings practical for all businesses.   The goal is to offer tools to make all businesses successful. Meets the third Tuesday of each month, 8:00 a.m. at GPCC.

Economic Development/Transportation

We avidly support the economic growth of our region and are committed to insuring this growth is in the best interest of the community.  By researching and endorsing adequate infrastructure we are preparing for the future growth of our area. Meets the second Tuesday of each month, 8:00 a.m. at GPCC.

Education

Focusing on the younger generation, we identify local students who have succeeded in spite of major adversities in both their personal and educational lives, and together with our business community we celebrating these individuals each May at our Youth Appreciation Luncheon.  The Education Committee also organizes an annual "Career Fest" where local sophomore students converge on East Stroudsburg University to interact with a diverse group of business people to discuss career opportunities. Meets the second Monday of each month, 11:30 a.m. (for lunch only), Meeting starts at 12:00 Noon at JR's Grille in East Stroudsburg. (No meetings July and August)

Energy

Our goal is to promote sustainable energy use and the importance of good energy management for economic, social and environmental well being of the residents and businesses of Monroe County.  To promote the use of efficient energy technologies in our communities through education, training and research, and supporting energy conservation as a means to protect the environment, enhance public health and safety, and position Monroe County to capture emerging economic development.  Meets the third Monday of each month, 8:30 a.m. at GPCC.

Environmental

Preservation of our beautiful natural resources is the responsibility of business.  Projects include bi-annual highway cleanups and our Save the Planet Awards.  We recognize those who are leaders using environmentally sound practices. Meets the fourth Friday of each month, 8:00 a.m. at
GPCC.

Expo

The largest expo in the region is organized and hosted by this committee.  Two hundred (200) businesses showcase their products and services over a two day period for local business persons and the community at large.  Each year thousands of people visit Expo over this time period.  Monies raised benefit the scholarship fund at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsvylania.  ESU also hosts our annual Expo. Meetings scheduled by Committee Chairman, begin in the fall of each year.
 

Finance

The Finance Committee reviews the Chamber's financial status and offers recommendations on revenue streams, alternative funding programs and expense controls.  Meetings scheduled by the GPCC Treasurer.

Government Affairs

As “The Voice of Business Since 1910” our Government Affairs Committee meets with our local legislators and business owners to discuss issues pertinent to our region.  The Chamber is charged with being the “Voice of Business” and accepts this responsibility to communicate the needs of the business community and to support initiatives that insure the continued growth and success of business. Meets the first Friday of each month, 8:00 a.m. at various locations. Call the chamber at 570.421.4433 for location information.  (No meetings July and August)
 

Human Resources

Comprised of experts in the HR field, this committee develops and presents workshops and seminars on a wide range of topics to assist both HR professionals and non-professionals.  Realizing that a majority of our members do not have someone dedicated to HR, this committee has a strong sense of community and willingly shares industry best practices.  Meets the third Wednesday of each month, 8:00 a.m. at GPCC.

Membership

As ambassadors of the Chamber, members of this committee assist the Membership Director with welcoming new members, recommend others for membership, and suggest new and alternative benefits for members. Meets the first Monday of each month, 8:00 a.m. at GPCC.
 

Quality of Life

We believe that it is the duty of business to contribute to the betterment of our community.  The Quality of Life committee holds events for children as well as seniors each year.  Additionally, a special project is chosen which benefits our community and funding is raised by holding special events throughout the year.  Meets the first Thursday of each month10:00 a.m. at GPCC.
 

West End

Focusing on issues important to the western regional of the county, this committee works to unite the community through opening communication channels and thereby addressing such things as traffic congestion.  Meets the second Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m.

Women in Business

Focusing on issues related to women owned businesses or women in management positions, this committee presents monthly issues relevant to today's business women.  Monthly luncheons are held throughout our county.  Additionally, WIB offers scholarship monies to Northampton Community College, Monroe Campus.  Meets the third Tuesday of each month, 9:00 a.m. at GPCC.
